On board training

SMSC has developed the DP CAP™ on board training system for DP operators in a JIP with Teekay, Kongsberg Maritime and Global Maritime. The system allows the operators to use any idle time the vessel may have to train Dynamic Positioning under realistic conditions on the oil field, or elsewhere on their own vessel’s systems.

DP CAP™ has been installed on a large number of shuttle tankers that operates in the North Sea, Canada and Brazil. It has been acknowledged by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and the Nautical Institute, and will grant the DPO’s DP sea-service time in the amount of 8 weeks when the whole training program has been completed.
 
SMSC is in a process of developing on board training tools for a broader specter of DP operations, PSV’s, SBV’s, and Cable Layers etc.” This training tool, “On Board Training System” (OTS) will be developed in cooperation with Simon Møkster Shipping AS”.
