Projects related to Marine Operations in Arctic

Over the last years, SMSC has initiated and played a major role in different research projects related to activities in Nordic areas. The projects have had a wide range of industrial and international participation.
The most important project, has been to develop a realistic simulator ice model. In cooperation with NTNU ( Norwegian University for Sciences and Technology), SMSC has implemented a new set of algorithms describing bending and breaking of ice in contact with a ship into the simulator.
The ice model has been validated to real manoeuver tests and test results from ice tank trials, and has been used for numerical simulations for different operations in ice infested waters
Facts
-
SMSC can simulate ice behavior for different ship and structure design
- SMSC can perform simulations in a huge variety ice concentrations
- SMSC can combine several simulators for Ice Management pre-simulations
- SMSC have a skilled technical staff with experience both in mathematical and visual modeling, combined with personnel with extensive experience from marine operations
- Training on SMSC simulators has documented safety benefits
Clients benefit
-
Numerical calculations of mooring forces by the use of SMSC Ice Model
- Pre-simulation and visualization of complex marine operations in ice
- Pre-simulation and visualization of different Ice Management scenarios
- DNV certified Ice Navigation Training Course
- Ice Management Training real time in multiple simulators
- Quality assurance of high risk and demanding operations in ice infested waters
- Operations in increasingly challenging environments make pre-simulation more valuable
