Joint Training

As the only training facility in Norway, SMSC provides two different setups of joint training on full scale bridge and/or offshore vessel simulators, and full scale offshore crane simulators.

One simulator joint training setup is interaction between an offshore Supply vessel and an offshore installation crane. The other simulator joint training setup is between an escort Tug and an Oil/gas tanker. Tug escort is mandatory for tankers transiting in and out of an increasing number of terminals and harbors and the course consists of extensive advanced simulator training combined with theoretical views.

Offshore Supply vessel and offshore installation crane joint training are designed to improve skills and communication between the vessel and offshore installation crane operator in complex interaction operations between the units. Course participants will be trained in realistic conditions and to exacting standards, and instructed on how to handle unexpected and critical situations and acquire better knowledge about the various aspects of vessel, crane and cargo handling.

Simulator joint training can also be done between different types of cranes, vessels in various combinations and scenarios. Engine room simulator, ECDIS and DP interaction and operation can also be integrated into advanced custom made simulator training.

Proper operational procedures and processes, combined with real time simulation training of operational skills, communication and teamwork, makes it possible to dramatically reduce the risk of human error and technical malfunction.
