Ship Manoeuvring Simulator Centre AS (SMS) was established in 1990, after having operated as a government-run company for the previous 10 years. Over the years SMS has gained a considerable reputation as a quality provider of simulator-based training.
SMS offers advanced, up-to-date training facilities. The learning environment has a look and feel that closely resembles the real life experience. Our training centres benefit from the fact that we have our own technical department. This enables SMS to develop and improve its models, any offshore installation, sailing area or harbour. SMS develops its own software in order to provide company-specific training, and is able to establish simulator-based training worldwide when requested.
SMS has a division that undertakes projects and consultancy work. Presently SMS focuses on deep water- and arctic operations, and the operational and environmental challenges that will come about in connection with increased activity in oil and gas production and transport. Among our customers you find international ship / tug owners and -operators, major oil companies and marine insurance companies. The projects division also does research and development in collaboration with institutions in Japan, Russia, France and Canada.
